Baru Free Zone

Introduction

The Barú Free Zone is formed according to the Special Fiscal and Customs Regime of Tourist Free Zone and Multimodal Logistic Support, according to Law No. 19 of 2001. It corresponds to a commercial, tourist, industrial logistics and services zone, dedicated to the growth of the Barú region, in the province of Chiriquí. It is located on the border of Panama with Costa Rica, so this privileged position generates commercial benefits throughout the Central American region. ​

Legal frame

Law May 19, 2001 (by means of it, a special tax and customs regime of tourist free zone and multimodal logistic support in Barú is established).

Law 120 of December 30, 2013, amends article 27 of Law 19 of 2001 and promulgates other tax provisions.
